Marriage records and Circuit Court case records can both involve the Clerk, but they are not the same request. Marriage certificate copy requests need the names of both parties as used at application, the date of marriage or approximate year, copy type and count, requester contact and mailing information, and check or money order payment. Divorce decrees are family case documents and use Circuit Court case copy channels.
Carroll County Clerk Scam Warnings
The Clerk page names several scam categories: deed copy scams, property-profile scams, power-line land scam alerts, jury warrant scams, telephone subpoena scams, and fake Clerk payment calls. The deed warning is especially practical because official deed copies are available through the Clerk for under $10, while scam mailers may ask $99 or $109 for a property profile packet.
Jury and warrant scam warnings are also direct. Maryland courts, Sheriff's Offices, and Jury Offices do not call citizens to obtain payment over the phone for a fine for missing jury duty. The Clerk's Office does not take credit card payments over the phone.
